Clay Date - Inês Salgado
Inês Salgado is a ceramist with over 30 years of experience, having begun her journey in the world of ceramics in 1985. Over this period, her career has evolved considerably, allowing her to explore different facets of the art of pottery. From creating and selling unique pieces to sharing her knowledge through teaching, her journey has been marked by significant changes and personal and professional growth.
Having studied at Cencal, one of the leading institutions in Portugal for training ceramicists, Inês decided to open her own studio, "Olaria Lisboa", in Encarnação. This exclusive space not only represents the materialization of a dream, but also a place where the ceramic tradition is preserved and reinvented. The classes offered are a true immersion in ceramic techniques, tile painting and other artistic approaches, allowing students of different nationalities to connect and learn in an inclusive way. Inês’ fluency in Spanish and English has been a valuable asset in creating an accessible and diverse learning environment.
At Clay Date, Inês shared the challenges and achievements in her journey as a ceramist and educator. Reflection on how ceramics have transformed over the years, new trends and the role of art in contemporary society as central themes. With a special focus on her experience as a master potter, Inês explores what it takes to build a creative space that fosters inspiration and technique, in a context where ceramics is gaining increasing relevance and recognition.
