Master Class: Throwing Off the Hump, Technique and Texture
Duration: 3 hours
Basic Requirements: Control and ability to center clay on the ceramics wheel
Throwing off-the-hump increases production as well as allows a potter to gain quicker control of smaller amounts of clay (less than 250g) on the ceramics wheel.
In this three-hour master class students will focus on the importance of clay compression and ceramic forms while adding faceting and textures to their work. Master potter, Joy Hanford, will also assist in pushing students out of their comfort zones in how best to handle wet work!
Students will leave with no completed work, but with a confidence of technique that will add another dimension to their ceramics practice.
The price includes the 23% VAT applicable in Portugal.
This service is non-refundable, and cancellations are only allowed up to 24 hours before the activity. In case of cancellation, a voucher equal to the activity’s value will be issued, valid for 3 months.

If you have never centered clay before this class is not for you. This class is a reframing of skills already explored, not a first class in ceramics. Ceramics experience at the basic level is required to take this course. Please see our course offerings at Atelier Retiro or courses offered at your local community atelier for a beginning level pottery wheel class, before applying to this master class.
